practical wisdom suggests that in order to make stuff you first have apply an certain kind of intelligence to the practice of that making. in many cases this implies making other stuff first. this is our version of a BOXjoint jig. not surprisingly for making box joints. our intention is to make a simple seat. this is the philosophy born out of the art of making things. phronesis is the ancient greek word to describe this type of wisdom or intelligence. it is wisdom that is born out of thoughtful practical action. aristotle distinguishes it from episteme and techne as it combines wisdom and intelligent virtues with this practical character.
