longstone in the making ? carn stabba.

this recent ‘discovery’ lies on a granite platform just below carn stabba cave. it is part of a conspicuous arrangement of stones visible from the halsetown road above venwyn cottage. it was in the process of being hewn out of a larger stone as if fashioned by a stone mason or sculptor and definitely nor being split as is usual in more modern times (gate posts, mining props etc). it’s shape suggests that of a possible menhir with its pointed top and a square base, not fully formed but with all three sides largely finished and awaiting its final release from its original bolder. the platform provides an ideal working surface its gentle slope allowing an easy launching pad to its final destination. …
