stackhouse cove.

what a great place name! this quartz bolder underlines the predominance of quartz along this coast line in west penwith. it’s importance goes back to prehistory when it was revered for its reflective qualities and was mined for ceremonial uses and for its use in jewellery. both coloured as here and brilliant white can be found locally and was used in the construction of monuments throughout west penwith both as floor and path covering associated with tombs and entrance graves and in large bolder form in stone circles (boscawen un). quartz from west penwith has travelled as far as the levant (now lebanon and palestine) during the neolithic period. #mininghistory #prehistory #cerimonial #stackhouse #westpenwith #neolithic #quartz
