yellowmead stone circle. four stone circles are set around a central cairn, with a stone row extending away from the south west side. it is situated on the south west facing slope of yellowmead down. the four circles are not concentric and there is a further arc of seven stones up to 0.4m in height on the west side which may be the remains of a fifth circle. the outer circle measures some 30m in diameter and was made up of 32 stones, the largest of which is 1.29m high (re-erected 1920). at the top of this stone were two or three depressions possibly  cup-marks. the second circle is made up of 27 stones and had a diameter of 15.24m whilst the third circle consists of 30 even smaller stones with a diameter of 11.27m. the inner circle is made of 22 larger stones up to 0.9m in height with a diameter of 6.70m. this inner circle encloses either a kistvaen or a large cairn, the foundations of which can be seen today. the remains of a double stone alignment extend some 10m from the south west side; there are three stones in the southern row and a similar number in the northern row, although more were recorded in 1922. the stones of the alignments are up to 0.3m in height and on average 2m apart. the rows are approximately 1m wide. this view faces south east towards drizzlecombe stones rows on the left beyond the horizon and gutter tor on the right….#yellowmeadstonecircle #neolithic #earlybronzeage #stonerow #cairn #ancientarcheology #ancientmonument #constructedimage #cupmarks visit montagecity.com for more images
