mulfra_quoit. neolithic chambered tomb

neolithic chambered tomb. located near the summit of mulfra hill. it can be seen from a distance and would easily be picked out across the valleys from the other adjacent hills. these hills which extend across the northern part of penwith would hold sites of ceremony and seasonal occupations during the neolithic period and on into the bronze age.

penwith’s entangled ceremonial land-scapes with their spectacular granite outcrops, quoits, chambered tombs, standing stones and stone circles make this one of the most intensely occupied sites of prehistory in europe.  the hill at trewey common with its neolithic chambered tomb, can seen on the horizon. its shape can be clearly seen reflected in the fallen capstone of mulfta quoit.
